A multifaceted artist with 10 years old

Candela es la pequeña artista de nuestra casa A menudo me preguntan si la llevamos a clase arte, si trabajamos con ella, si la motivamos… La verdad es que no, a veces va a unos días a clases de arte en vacaciones, pero ella es totalmente autodidacta. Sigue a varios artistas a través de vídeos de youtube (ahora, por ejemplo, ve mucho a Kasey Golden) y nosotros simplemente controlamos lo que ve y lo que no ve.

Candela is the little artist of our house. I am often asked if we take her to art class, if we work with her, if we motivate her… The truth is that no, sometimes she goes to art lessons on holidays for a few days, but she is fully self-taught. She follows several artists through YouTube videos (now, for example, she watches a lot on Kasey Golden) and we simply control what she sees and what she doesn't see.

Últimamente ha empezado a crear figuras de fieltro. Me pidió que le comprara fieltro de colores, algodón, hilos y agujas, y comenzó a hacer unos simpáticos animalitos, e incluso algún pokemon. Luego se dedicó a diseñar frutas y verduras variadas, ¡nos encantan!

Lately she has started to create felt figures. She asked me to buy felt colors, cotton, threads and needles, and began to make some nice animals, and even some pokemon. Then she dedicated herself to designing varied fruits and vegetables, we love it!

Pero si hay algo que realmente me ha sorprendido ha sido lo rápido que ha aprendido a dibujar de forma digital. Comenzó a hacer sencillas animaciones con un programa muy fácil (Flipaclip) y utilizando su dedo. Por Navidad pidió una tablet más moderna y un lápiz, e hizo dibujos y animaciones aún mejores con la aplicación Procreate.

But if there is something that has really surprised me it has been how fast she has learned to draw digitally. She began to make simple animations with a very easy program (Flipaclip) and using her finger. For Christmas she asked for a more modern tablet and a pencil, and made even better drawings and animations with Procreate app.

Sin embargo, tengo que confesar, que las obras de arte que más me gustan son los que hace a lápiz, luego repasa con tinta, y termina coloreando con acuarelas, ¡son mis dibujos favoritos! Me fascina ver cómo comienza el dibujo, con qué seguridad hace los trazos, y con qué decisión escoge los colores y las diferentes tonalidades. ¿Cuál es tu favorito?

However, I have to confess, that the works of art that I like the most are the ones she makes in pencil, then she reviews with ink, and ends up coloring with watercolors, they are my favorite drawings! It fascinates me to see how the drawing begins, with what security she makes the strokes, and with what decision she chooses the colors and the different tones. What is your favourite?

A Candela le encanta dibujar, eso no es ningún secreto. Lo que quizás no sabéis es que no le gusta participar en concursos de ningún tipo, ¡ni siquiera de dibujo! A veces le enseño información sobre concursos de dibujo que pienso que le pueden interesar, pero nunca muestra interés. 

Candela loves to draw, that's not a secret. What you may not know is that she does not like to participate in competitions of any kind, not even drawing competitions! Sometimes I show her information about drawing contests that I think it may interest her, but she never shows any interest.

Tan sólo una vez participó en un concurso de dibujo de un club de cine infantil. Ganó el primer premio, pero hay que tener en cuenta que la temática era muy especial para ella: dragones. Desde entonces he intentado convencerla varias veces, pero no hay manera.

Only once she participated in a drawing contest for a children's film club. She won the first prize, but you have to keep in mind that the theme was very special for her: dragons. Since then I have tried to convince her several times, with no luck. 

Por esta razón, cuando a finales de septiembre me dijo que quería participar en “Inktober” me hizo mucha ilusión. Es cierto que esta iniciativa no es un concurso, pero me parece fantástico que quiera ser partícipe de este reto tan original.

For this reason, when she told me, at the end of September, that she wanted to participate in "Inktober" I was very excited. It is true that this initiative is not a contest, but I think it is fantastic that she wants to be a participant in this original challenge.

Pero, ¿sabéis cómo nace “inktober”? Pues lo inventó un artista americano llamado Jake Parker en 2009. Él quería mejorar sus habilidades como ilustrador, y se le ocurrió un desafío: cada día del mes de octubre tenía que hacer una ilustración tradicional a tinta usando como referencia una palabra diferente cada día. ¡Y así nació Inktober!

But do you know how “inktober” was born? Well, an American artist named Jake Parker invented it in 2009. He wanted to improve his skills as an illustrator, and he came up with a challenge: every day of October he had to do a traditional ink illustration using a different word as a reference every day. And that's how Inktober was born!

Todos los que quieran participar tiene que hacer un dibujo con el tema de cada día y etiquetarlo en las redes sociales con el hashtag #inktober (El nombre de inktober viene de la palabra inglesa Ink, que significa tinta y de October, que es Octubre).

Everyone who wants to participate has to draw a picture with the theme of each day and label it on social networks with the hashtag #inktober (The name of inktober comes from the words Ink + October).

Y ahora, con toda esta información que tenéis, os dejo disfrutar de la obra de nuestra pequeña artista. Es cierto que yo no puedo ser muy objetiva pero pienso que, para ser una niña de 10 años, dibuja bastante bien, ¿no te parece?

Este blog se creó expresamente para publicar los dibujos de Candela. La idea surgió de la cantidad de trabajo que nuestra pequeña artista acumulaba, y lo lejos que estaba la familia. A través del blog, su madre (cuando saca un poco de tiempo) clasifica los dibujos y los muestra por aquí para que familiares y amigos puedan verlos. 

This blog was created specifically to publish the Candela's drawings. The idea came from the amount of work that our little artist accumulated, and how far away the family was. Through the blog, her mother (when she takes a little time) classifies the drawings and shows them around here so family and friends can see them.

Pero hoy no quiero hablar de Candela, hoy quiero hacer una excepción, hoy quiero hablar de mi otra artista: mi hija Alba. Ella es la hermana mayor de Candela, la que siempre la ha acompañado en sus juegos, la que siempre ha estado a su lado, y la que siempre ha dibujado con ella.

But today I don't want to talk about Candela, today I want to make an exception, today I want to talk about my other artist: my daughter Alba. She is the older sister of Candela, the one who has always accompanied her in her games, the one that has always been by her side, and the one she has always drawn with her.

Alba tiene un estilo totalmente propio. Me encanta cuando me enseña sus trabajos de las clases de arte del instituto, ¡son muy bonitos! Además, sé que se lo pasa genial cuando va a la Escuela de Arte de Putney con su hermana. El profesor suele elogiar su trabajo y siempre destaca el uso tan bueno que hace de los colores.

Alba has a totally own style. I love when she shows me her work in the art classes of the Secondary School, there are very beautiful! Besides, I know she has a great time when she goes to the Putney Art School with her sister. The teacher usually praises her work and always highlights the good use she makes of colours.

Yo realmente no sé si es buena o mala dibujante. Sinceramente, tampoco me importa. Lo que sé es que ella disfruta dibujando y yo soy feliz viendo su cara de satisfacción cuando le digo lo mucho que me gustan esas chicas desmelenadas que suele dibujar. Aunque, de todos sus trabajos, mi favorito es este flamenco de Huelva, ¡una auténtica obra de arte!

I really do not know if she is a good or bad drawer. Honestly, I don't mind either. What I know is that she enjoys drawing and I am happy to see her face of satisfaction when I tell her how much I like those disheveled girls that she usually draws. Although, of all his works, my favorite is this flamenco from Huelva, an authentic work of art!

El Club de los gatos

Como muchos de vosotros sabéis, a Candela le encantan los animales. Su sueño es tener un perro algún día, aunque los gatos también le gustan mucho, pero dice que son más independientes y no juegan tanto con ella.

As many of you know, Candela loves animals. Her dream is to have a dog someday, although she also likes cats a lot, but she says that they are more independent and don't play with her so much.

Cuando sea mayor quiere tener varios perros, gatos, conejos, caballos… Dice que va a vivir en el campo para poder tener a todos sus animales, aunque irá a trabajar a la ciudad. Pero, mientras llega ese momento, se entretiene dibujándolos.

When she grows up she wants to have several dogs, cats, rabbits, horses... She says that she's going to live in the countryside to be able to have all her animals, although she will go to work in the city. But, while that moment arrives, she entertains herself by drawing them.

Esta semana, aprovechando las vacaciones escolares, a Candela se le ocurrió crear un Club de gatos. Cogió uno de los preciosos cuadernos que le regalaron por su cumpleaños y se dedicó a dibujar gatos de todo tipo. Estaba contenta dibujando pero, lo que realmente le hacía feliz, es dibujar para los demás.

This week, taking advantage of the school holidays, Candela had the idea of creating a Cat Club. She took one of the precious notebooks that she got from her birthday and she dedicated herself to drawing cats of all kinds. She was happy drawing, but what really made her happy was making drawings for others.

Así que, entre las dos, nos pusimos manos a la obra: yo pregunté quién quería un gato personalizado, y Candela puso su imaginación y sus rotuladores al servicio de todos los interesados. So, between the two of us, we got down to work: I asked around who wanted a personalised cat, and Candela put her imagination and her markers and pens at the service of those interested.
