Portraits and Picasso

Esta semana he asistido con mis hijas a una clase de arte muy interesante en la Escuela de Arte y Diseño de Putney. El profesor, al que ya conocíamos por un curso al que fuimos hace unos meses, nos habló sobre las técnicas para hacer retratos, sobre las proporciones de la cara y sobre Picasso.

This week I attended with my daughters to a very interesting art class at Putney School of Art and Design. The professor, whom we already knew from a course we went a few months ago, talked about techniques for making portraits, about the proportions of the face and about Picasso. 

Hablamos sobre la vida del genial pintor malagueño, vimos sus cuadros en internet y en libros, y dibujamos algunas de sus obras, ¡qué maravilla! La clase de hora y media se nos pasó en un abrir y cerrar de ojos.

We talked about the life of the great artist from Málaga, we saw his paintings on the internet and in books, and we drew some of his works, awesome! The class of an hour and a half passed in the blink of an eye!

Mis hijas disfrutan mucho con estas clases y yo, al mismo tiempo que las acompaño, me divierto y aprendo. La verdad es que no se me da demasiado bien dibujar, pero me gusta pasar ese rato con mis hijas, me relajo y me encanta verlas concentradas en su trabajo. Y, como ya os podréis imaginar, ellas dibujan mucho mejor que yo...

My daughters really enjoy these classes and I accompany them at the same time that I have fun and learn. The truth is I do not draw very well, but I like to spend this time with my girls, I relax and I love to see them concentrated in their work and as you can imagine, they draw much better than I do...

Mi hija me hizo un retrato fantástico y, aunque no le gustaba mucho como hizo la boca, ¡a mi me encanta! Cuando terminó mi dibujo, copió uno de los retratos que nos dio el profesor, ¿qué os parece?

My daughter made me a fantastic portrait and, although she did not like it very much how she did the mouth, I love it! When she finished my drawing, she copied one of the pictures that the teacher gave us, what do you think?

Alba hizo un retrato de su hermana Candela y, aunque no le gustó del todo, a mi me pareció fantástico, ¡sobre todo por lo bonitos y grandes que le dibujó los ojos! Después escogió un retrato bastante difícil y, tras un par de correcciones que le hizo el profesor, le quedó muy bien, pero no me dejó fotografiar el resultado final...

Alba made a portrait of her sister Candela and, although she did not like it at all, I though it was fantastic, especially because of the beautiful and big eyes she drew! Then she choose a very difficult portrait and, after a couple of corrections the teacher made her, it was very good, but she did not let me photograph the final result...

Mis dibujos no son buenos, lo sé. Sin embargo me relajé mucho durante la clase y, lo más importante: ¡disfruté de un rato estupendo con mis hijas!

My drawings are not so good, I know, however I relaxed a lot during the class and, most importantly, I enjoyed a great time with my daughters! 

Los animalitos de Candela

Candela's little animals

Mi hija Candela es una artista muy especial. Como a muchos niños de su edad, le encanta dibujar, puede pasar horas y horas rodeada de lápices de colores, rotuladores, pinturas... Mi casa está repleta de dibujos de Candela por todos los rincones y, como es imposible guardarlos todos, selecciono algunos de ellos, y los meto en sobres que luego reparto entre la familia.

My daughter Candela is a very special artist. Like many children at her age, she loves to draw, she can spend hours and hours surrounded by colored pencils, markers, paints... My house is full of drawings made by Candela from all corners and it's impossible to keep them all, so I select a few of them, put it in envelopes that I then distribute among the family.

Los dinosaurios y los dragones son la temática principal en las obras de mi hija. A veces le pido que me dibuje una muñeca o una princesa, pero se niega en rotundo. ¡A ella lo que le gusta es dibujar todo tipo de animales! Sueña con ser veterinaria y tener una casa llena de mascotas, y ese amor que siente por los animales se transmite en sus ilustraciones.

Dinosaurs and dragons are the main theme in the works of my daughter. Sometimes I ask her to draw me a doll or a princess, but she refuses totally. She likes to draw all kinds of animals! She dreams of being a veterinarian and having a house full of pets, and that love she feels for animals is transmitted in her illustrations.

En esta primera entrada os muestro algunos de las obras que he encontrado por casa para que veáis su estilo. No se si dibuja peor o mejor que los niños de su edad, y tampoco me interesa, para mi lo realmente importante es lo mucho que disfruta con cada dibujo, y lo feliz que soy al ver que mi hija ha encontrado un hobby que realmente le apasiona.

In this first post I show you some of the works that I found at home so you can see her style. I don't know if she draws worse or better than the children at her age, and I'm not interested either, for me that really matters is how much she enjoys with each drawing, and how happy I am to see my daughter has found a hobby that really passionate her.
